Costa Rica Country That Loves Nature

Costa Rica is a Central America country. It is a special country in our Travel Destination section. The reasons are many and not all related to wildlife an environmental protection. Some choices operated by the country has demonstrated the benefits of a peaceful politics.

Costa Rica neutral country

In 1949 after the civil war Costa Rica banned the Army. In 1983 has declared his neutrality.  A brave and clever choice that permits the Government to concentrate the efforts in other strategic economy areas. The saving of demilitarization has been invested in education. Where the country spends the 6.9% of his budget.

The military absence made Costa Rica politically stable. We hope the neighbor countries will make treasure of Costa Rica example.

Costa Rica  eco choices make the difference

A part of the money they spent in the ecosystem. The 28 % of Costa Rica has declared NationalPark. It is the highest percentage in the world. And then another important Costa Rica produces the 80 % of his electricity from renewable sources. This is possible because a number of rivers pass throughout the country.

Costa Rica thanks those brilliant choices has to create a good quality of life for the population. In fact, the country has classified the country happiness of the world in the range between 2000 and 2009. Actually is classified 13 but not because his level of happiness is low. Just other countries have worked very well and they have some better condition.

Eco-Tourism

Costa Rica, like we wrote above, has a great abundance of national parks. And a large part of the territory is forest. There are even more Marine parks, so this abundance of wildlife makes the country the most visited in  Central America.

In this first post about Costa Rica, we recommend just the most famous attraction. But in the future, we will talk about all other places. Costa Rica needs to be discovered step by step.

In fact, the country is an explosion of nature and the number of protected areas is the proof of this.

Arenal Volcano National Park

Over the beautiful view of the volcano, the park is definitely the bird watchers paradise. Well served in accommodation and services is suggested to all visitors of Costa Rica. In adding there is another inactive volcano in the park and it has a beautiful lagoon inside.

Corcovado National Park

It is the largest National Park in the country. Famous in the scientific community because of the large biodiversity. It can be found many primates but even a number of birds. It is located in the south-west of the country and it covers a large part of Osa Peninsula.

Biodiversity includes 500 species of trees. But the most impressive is the species of wild animals presence. In Corcovado find shelter jaguar, puma, Baird’s tapir, crocodile, caiman, and many species of monkeys. Much more animals are in the park but we will talk about it in another dedicated post.

Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve

Even in Monteverde, the biodiversity is the queen. The virgin forest is covering the almost totally of the Park. Hundred mammals, hundreds of birds, more than hundred reptilian and amphibians. But the most noteworthy is the 2.500 species of plants. In this plants are included an incredible concentration of different species of orchids.

Tortuguero National Park

Tortuguero is located in the north-east of the country. It is a remote location and you need to take a flight or boat to arrive at the park. It is rich in biodiversity it is one of the most important places of the turtle reproduction.

Manuel Antonio National Park

Manuel Antonio is a jewel, the smallest but one of the more visited in Costa Rica. This is because of the beautiful beaches and the possibility of a minimum effort to explore the forest. There are many accommodations and services. Many excursions are possible and even many activities. Before to do snorkeling or swimming we recommend to take necessary information at the tourist center. In some places can be interested in the rip current that can be very dangerous.

Ballena Marine National Park

The name says all.  This park is small and is possible to watch Humpback Whale. There are two migrations. One from Antarctica and one from Canada. It represents the main attraction. But is possible to see even other species. Sometimes is possible to watch even the dolphins and the killer whales even if rare.
