Laos Geography

Laos is a country located in the middle of South-Est Asia. It is bordering with Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, and Myanmar.

Despite the character friendly and gentle of Laotians, just in recent years, it became a touristic attraction.

The country is predominantly mountains and highlands. The highest peak is Phou Bia at 2,818 meters on sea level. Finally the biggest river in the state is the Mekong River and crosses it in all its length. Laos doesn’t touch the sea.

Economy

The Population is more than 6 million. Mostly of Laotians are farmers, and they do subsistence agriculture. The economy depends on the commercial exchanges with the neighboring countries.
Anyway, in recent years tourism develope is becoming relevant.

Politics

It is a country administrated by a single communist party, the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party. A significant influence is by China and Russia, and only after the URSS fall down the situation is a little bit changed.

In fact, it is part of the small block of socialist countries that adopt the Marxism-Leninism theory: China, Cuba, Laos, and Vietnam.

Tourism

The variety of tourism offer is growing continuously. If your interest is just cultural, you’ll find many places to visit, like Luang Prabang and Vat Phu, or maybe you’ll be interested in the Vientiane temples.

If you are interested in nature and trekking the offer is good, but just a part of the possibilities are actually publicized.

This is a good thing for me so the wildest part of Laos can remain wild and protected.
Laos’ administration is working to create a touristic offer inline with the ecotourism directive.

Laos also offers many possibilities for adventure trekking. Please take good information if you want to live a safe adventure.

Animals

You can’t imagine how many species of wild animals are present in Laos.
We say here just the more important: King Cobra, Leopard, Tiger, Elephant, Rhinoceros, Buffalo. In the Mekong River sometimes you can see the rare Irrawaddy Dolphin.
