Introduction: Who is Agafia Lykov?

Agafia Lykov was born 17 April 1944, As of 2016, she resides in the Western Sayan mountains, in the Republic of Khakassia.

In 1978,  a group of geologists discovered a family of Old Believers, the Lykovs. Living in isolation for decades with no contact to the outside world and with only a small number of possessions, they were believed to have been the last people living like this.

Why Did Agafia Choose to Live as a Hermit?

Orthodox Christians first and Soviets later were in opposition to them, so they fled to the wilderness for sanctuary.

Agafia is a permanent hermit, he did not lead a nomadic life like for example the peoples of Mongolia.

Is There an Ending for Agafia? What Happened to Her After 50 Years as a Hermit?

Now RTD’s film crew goes deep into the taiga to meet the only remaining member of the family, Agafia.

She is almost 70 years old and is in desperate need of a helper.

The film crew follows Agafia, a woman who has lived in the forest for her entire life. She is almost 70 years old and is in desperate need of a helper.

It seems impossible that a person today still lives in these conditions of isolation, but that’s the way it is. In her life, however, Agafia met the civilized world six times, the first of which was by the will of the Soviet government, which paid her a month-long trip around the Soviet Union.

However, there are still many unanswered questions about the life of Agafia, this incredible woman who demonstrates to the world the degree of adaptation to adversity that man can have.

In fact, it is precisely for this ability to adapt that the Sapiens are the animal species that dominate the world.

A documentary to watch absolutely because it is a true story of a woman of other times.
